Parents FAQs
How much will the student's parents have to pay?
Our scholarship covers tuition fees, as well as accommodation and food. What remains to be paid by the parents are travel expenses, pocket money and other miscellaneous costs such as costs related to project weeks, clothing, city visits, etc. Some schools also require travel insurance. At some schools, you can apply for a travel allowance if you have difficulty paying for the trip. You can read more about the financial details on the page Scholarship Details and For Parents & Guardians.
When do school terms begin and end?
Terms begin and end according to the school's own timetable, see the school's own website. School usually starts in late August or early September (in Eswatini in January).
Are students at the schools all year round during the two years, or can they visit Home inbetween, for example during holidays?
You may return home between semesters, so your studies are not year-round.
Your website states that the selected students are placed in UWC schools. Is there no possibility to influence where in the world they want to go?
Yes and no. During the selection process, applicants are given the opportunity to prioritize the schools and justify their choice. When allocating the scholarships, this is taken into account along with many other factors. However, there are only a limited number of scholarships for each school. We also do not send to all schools every year.
What is life like in the schools?
At the schools, students live in a dormitory. Rooms are usually four-person rooms. That is, a room has four beds, chairs, shelves, etc. For the most part, living together is less painful than many might expect and roommates often become lifelong friends.
What do UWC graduates do when they finish?
We are everywhere! UWCers can be found in many fields and the UWC alumni network is active and present in Sweden as well as internationally. The common experience unites people from very different sectors. On the page Alumni Profiles you can read more about what some of our alumni are doing today.
Is it possible to study the student's mother tongue?
Mother tongue is part of the IB exam. If there are enough Swedish speakers at the school, tuition can be offered by a teacher (UWCRCN) otherwise the studies are self-study. Depending on the school, there may be a Swedish-speaking tutor. The same applies to all other languages that may be relevant in your case.
